The WA Government is currently doing a Planning Investigation into the future use of the Cape (Point) Peron area covering the entire area from Safety Bay Road through to the end of the peninsula and they now want to hear from you. This is your chance to tell the Government what you’d like to see at Cape Peron. Submit your feedback using the link above.
When providing your comments and feedback on what improvements you would like to see at Point Peron, it’s important to remember that we urgently need the whole Point Peron area to be upgraded from the current ‘C’ Class reserve classification, to ‘A’ Class reserve classification. This is because Class A reserve classification has the greatest degree of protection, and once it’s enshrined in law, it requires approval of Parliament to amend the reserve’s purpose or area, or to cancel the reservation.
In addition, please be aware that despite suggestions that there will be no housing, I am not convinced. We have seen what the Government have tried to get away with before so I urge everyone to be very cautious when filling out the survey because the survey selections are loaded up with options designed to allow for private accommodation and for options that are not in keeping with the original planning classification of Pt Peron.
I urge all supporters to specifically state that land tenure and development options must be clearly restricted to those that fall within the ambit of the original planning classification of Pt Peron – “open space – nature/passive recreation”. Any development of the former AIW and RSL sites in particular, must be restricted to “open space – nature/passive recreation” so they remain fully accessible to all the public.
