Organisers of the rally to oppose the ‘Cape Peron Tourist Precinct Project’ say the numbers attending the rally demonstrate that there is widespread community opposition to the plan to build canals and a marina into the land at Point Peron.
Hands Off Point Peron spokesperson Dawn Jecks said, “We had a great turnout at the Hands Off Point Peron rally today – lots of people coming out to say, “Hands Off Point Peron”, because we value this area for the social dividends that it delivers: a unique place that many people say should be ‘heritage listed’ “Members of ‘Hands Off Point Peron’ simply don’t want to see our valuable and publicly owned natural assets being sold off, bulldozed and replaced with concrete, bitumen and canal housing”, Ms Jecks said.
The next rally is planned for July 11th.
